Designing for Glitter Mugs

A guide to show you how to build successful campaigns on glitter mugs

Glitter Mugs have a coloured, glittery surface. This affects how your artwork looks when printed.

Follow these guidelines when creating your design.

1. White will not be printed

We do not print white ink on Glitter Mugs.

Any white parts of your artwork will not be printed. Instead, the colour and glitter of the mug will show in these areas.

For example, if your artwork contains white text on a transparent background, the text will not be visible in the finished print.

2. Keep designs bold and simple

The glitter surface can make printed artwork look less sharp than it would on a standard mug.

For the best results:

  • Use bold shapes and clear lines.

  • Avoid very small details.

  • Avoid thin lines.

  • Avoid small or delicate text.

  • Choose colours that stand out against the mug colour.

3. Use text that is easy to read

We recommend a minimum font size of 4.2 mm.

Small or thin text may be difficult to read because of the glitter surface. Where possible, use a simple, bold font.

4. Colours can look different

The colour of the mug can affect the appearance of your artwork.

White areas will not print at all, and lighter colours may look different when printed over the coloured glitter surface.

Quick checklist

Before uploading your artwork, check that:

  • You do not need any white parts of the design to be visible.

  • Text is at least 4.2mm / 16px

  • Text and lines are not too thin.

  • The design does not rely on very small details.

  • Your colours will stand out against the colour of the mug.

Simple, bold designs give the best results on Glitter Mugs.
